Random Post- Manson's "The Subtle Art... "

I'm proud to say that I recently finished reading Mark Manson's "The Subtle Art of Not Giving a ****". Unfortunately, I'm the type to begin a book, get so busy with other commitments, and never have the chance to finish it. (This is a bad habit of mine that I am working to fix). But this book is a whole different story. I love reading self-growth books. And Manson's writing style is so much fun to read- there was never a dull moment.

The Book in Three Sentences:
The most productive use of your time and energy is finding something important and meaningful. This is because all of us have problems associated with our lives, but when we find meaning in our lives, it will help us sustain the effort needed to overcome any problems we may face. The key to living a good life isn't about worrying about more things, but rather, only caring about the things that align with our personal values.

Other lessons I took from the book:
  • The desire for more positive experience is itself a negative experience. And conversely, accepting one's negative experience is itself a positive experience.
  • Everything worthwhile in life is won through overcoming the associated negative experience.
  • The greatest and most important struggle in life is learning how to focus and prioritize your thoughts effectively based on personal values.
  • Don't invest your time and energy on trivial, unimportant things that don't matter in the long-run.
  • Happiness is found in solving problems, not avoiding them.
Highly recommend this book.

  1. Just by reading the book title, I get an impression that there are lots of interesting stories and life lesson inside. I agree that we should find our meaning in life but sometimes this is quite hard to reach. I wonder if Manson thinks that we should live life by our own rules. Could that be problematic?

  2. Self growth books are one of my favorite books to read too! I would definitely recommend reading Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey. Its a book that teaches you how to finance and manage your money. Another book that I recommend is Start with Why by Simon Sinek. This book gives people a better understanding and motivation to do what we do in life whether in our personal or professional lives. This books sounds really interesting in way that it shows us how to make the best out of our negative experiences.

  3. I've never read a self growth book, but I think the title sounds hilarious though. I think Manson has some valid points and good insights. I'm a bit curious and may pick up the book myself.

  6. Thanks for sharing! It sounds like a great book, with a lot to offer. I couldn't agree more with the lesson on not focusing time and energy on the little things that don't matter in the long run. It is one of the principles i've always tired to live by. I'll have to check out this book sometime!

  9. I really agree with the last lesson you learned from the book. There's no better way of feeling accomplished or better about yourself than from solving the problem that was bringing you down!
