A World We Dare To Imagine: Post 3

Name: Malek's 90-Day Transitional Housing for Homeless Families

Mission Statement:  To provide homeless children and families with the necessities of life: food, shelter, clothing, personal hygiene needs and medical care.

Homelessness can have a tremendous impact on children – their education, health, sense of safety, and overall development.  When compared to low-income and homeless families, children experiencing homelessness have been shown to:
Have higher levels of emotional and behavioral problems
Have increased risk of serious health problems
Be more likely to experience separations from their families
Experience more school mobility, repeat a grade, be expelled or drop out of school, and have lower overall academic performance.

This organization uniquely intends to provide 90-day transitional housing for homeless children and families in motels. The motels will be stocked with food and drinks in the pantries and refrigerator (e.g. Mac & Cheese, canned soup, pre-packaged salads, etc.). Also, there will be transportation provided for the children to and from their schools. And there will be a nurse available to do check-ups on a weekly basis. The program is aimed to help the parents find jobs through a workforce development program. There will be several options of available training-- e.g. bus/truck driver, carpenter, pesticide applicator, waste disposal personnel, etc. Parents will be required to save 75% of their income, so that they will later be able to pay for permanent housing. The program will also have child care, so that someone can watch over the children while the parents are working full time.

Anima Mundi Development Partners should support my organization, because housing and employment is definitely the solution to homelessness for low-income families. No child should have to live on the street, or stay hungry, due to the unfavorable situations they were born into. Most families would benefit from this assistance, because it will help them save money and quickly transition back into housing of their own.
